Since moving to London, one of the most common questions I get asked is how on earth I’m able to continue planning our wedding in New York. I always tell them the same thing – we have an amazing wedding planner! Adrienne from Ruffles & Tweed has been my saving grace during this transition.
I decided long before I knew we were moving to London that I wanted to work with a wedding planner. I think I hired her back in January! For whatever reason I’ve found that many people are surprised I’ve decided to use a planner – why can’t I handle the planning on my own? The obvious answer now is that I’m in London. But back in January, the answer was because I needed someone there on our wedding day to help ensure things run smoothly. Since we’re having a smaller wedding at a restaurant (you can read about our venue here), it didn’t come with an on-site planner or maître–d’ to assist with day-of coordination, like many larger venues do. That means either myself, a bridesmaid, or a member of my family would have to be at Frankie’s all day to ensure everything is arriving on time and being set up according to our vision. I didn’t want to put that burden on myself, or on my friends and family. This was the initial reason why I decided to go with a planner, but Adrienne has helped me with so much more.
Not only has Adrienne planned weddings at Frankie’s in the past, she’s done so in nearly every month of the year! She clearly knows the venue way better than I ever could, and is much more in tune to what works and what doesn’t. She supplied me with an amazing list of vendors who have been successful at Frankie’s in the past, and has been able to steer me in the right direction for everything from cake to flowers (seriously you guys – I never would have found our cake without Adrienne and it’s to die for!). We’re still in the initial stages of the decor and the smaller details, but I feel 100% confident she understands my vision for our day and will do an amazing job at helping me bring it to life.
If you’re unsure about whether you need a wedding planner, my advice would be to go for it! You’re not being “lazy” or “uninvolved” if you choose to use a planner – you are simply asking for help to ensure that your big day is everything you ever dreamed it would be. With Adriennes help, I know that ours is going to be all that we wanted and more!
What do you guys think about wedding planners? Did you / would you work with one for your big day?
PS. If you’re planning a wedding in the tri-state area as well, be sure to check out Adrienne! I obviously can’t recommend her enough 😉
