Unless you don’t follow a lot of bloggers, you’ve probably seen the news all over social media this morning: due to the recent issues with Facebook and privacy, they have released a new and stricter API for Instagram that is effective immediately.

Why should you care about this Instagram update?

Because this means that you can no longer shop your favorite bloggers Insta pics simply by liking the photo.

Back up. What?

I know, right?! As of last night, you will no longer receive shoppable emails when you like a bloggers LTK enabled photo. You can read more about the API update here.

Why is this Instagram update a big deal?

For me personally, it’s really not that big of a deal. My blog is not my full time job, and I don’t rely on income from LTK to support myself. However, I know a ton of gals who make a serious living from the platform! This is just another reminder to bloggers that the only thing you can rely on is your own blog. Instagram has proven time and time again that it can change at the drop of a hat, and there’s nothing we as bloggers can do about it.

How to shop on Instagram moving forward.

There are a few different ways to shop my content going forward. The first is by downloading the App and following me in the app. It’s super easy to use and as soon as I post a picture, the details will be available there. If you don’t want to follow me (no hard feelings), you can also screenshot my pictures and get the details in the app – but I totally understand that this is probably not the best option, because who wants to end up with a bunch of random pics of me in their phone?! LOL. The last option is by coming to the shop page on my blog. I’ve linked this page in my Instagram bio, and in my opinion this is the best way to shop going forward. All of my Insta pics will be right there, and when you click on the image, the shoppable products appear beneath it. Easy peasy!

This Instagram update is not the end of the world.

Listen, I know that for some of you this an inconvenience. However, I think there are definitely some positives in all of this. I know that sometimes people HATE receiving the emails. I myself would occasionally not like a photo because I saw that it was LTK enabled, and I just didn’t need another email in my inbox. This new update means that you can (and should!) like and support bloggers photos just for the heck of it! I know that nobody likes change, myself included, and this is a pretty big update. But just like with the algorithm, we’ll get used it!

If you have any questions about the Instagram update please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Now go out and show some love to your favorite bloggers today!

xx Mollie

Good to know, thank you for writing this! I am someone who shopped with the emails, and I don’t follow any other bloggers. (I’m a friend of your moms!). I’ll be sure to follow you in the app, love your style!
