TGIF!! I’m so happy to have a weekend in the city with very minimal plans (aka you can find me on the couch watching Gilmore Girls all weekend – I may or may not be on season 2 already…). Today I’m sharing a look into our staycation at The Standard East Village. Connor and I came here for our 3 year anniversary last month and had such an amazing time. Playing tourist in NYC is honestly one of my favorite things to do, and the East Village is a special place for me because it’s where I lived when I moved to the city right after college! We had so much fun checking out all the places we used to go when we first started dating.
The Hotel: The Standard is one of the most well-known hotels in New York. Their High Line location is a popular night out spot thanks to places like The Top of the Standard (formerly known as The Boom Boom Room) and Le Bain. However, the East Village location has bragging rights of its own – it’s the home of the restaurant Narcissa (run by Michelin-starred check John Fraser), as well as the Winter Garden. While we didn’t have a chance to check out Narcissa, we did have drinks at the Winter Garden. The garden is located outdoors, with heated tents so you can enjoy a drink and apps outside while staying warm. Ironically the day we went was 60 and sunny, so we sat outside the tents to enjoy the weather. But I can only imagine how cozy that spot is during the dead of winter! The entire staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, and we felt right at home as soon as we arrived.
Our Room: We stayed in a Corner King, which has sweeping floor-to-ceiling views of Union Square, all the way out to the Empire State Building. Looking east we could see the Hudson River! Our room had the comfiest bed EVER and featured extra luxurious Italian sheets and fluffy down pillows. We had a huge TV equipped with cable and tons of free movies. There was free wi-fi throughout the entire hotel, and it was really fast too (unlike some hotels where free wi-fi means slow speeds!). The bathroom came stocked with all the essential amenities, including super soft bathrobes which were perfect for lounging in. There’s 24 hour room service available, which Connor and I definitely took advantage of on Monday morning! We had breakfast in bed and it was the best way to end our staycation. This didn’t apply to us, but the hotel is also pet friendly. I will definitely keep this in mind if I ever convince Connor we need to get a puppy 😉
The Location: Located right off of Cooper Square (and the 6 subway line at Astor Place), this hotel is right in the heart of one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods. You’re a quick walk from Union Square, SoHo, NoHo, and the Lower East Side. That means that the best shopping, food, and culture that NYC has to offer is just minutes away. It honestly made me miss living in the East Village! If you’ve never been to New York before, the location couldn’t better.
Our anniversary celebration was the best yet, and it wouldn’t have been the same without our staycation at The Standard East Village. If you find yourself in NYC, I highly recommend staying here!
