As some of you may know, last week I had the chance to experience my first cruise with Royal Caribbean! I boarded the Harmony of the Seas (very quickly BTW – they pride themselves on having the fastest boarding process of any ship) not quite sure what to expect. I brought along my friend Steph, who had also never been on a cruise before, so we were total newbies! I think it’s safe to say that both us were completely blown away. Read on to hear more about my experience and the ship!
The Room: I have to be honest, I’ve heard that the rooms on cruise ships can be absolutely tiny, so I was little nervous to check out my “stateroom”, but I couldn’t believe how spacious it was! I’ve seen hotel rooms in NYC that are much smaller than our room aboard Harmony of the Seas. It had a big (and super comfy!) king sized bed, two closets, a sparkly tiled shower, an HD-TV loaded with tons of movies, a desk space, and best of all, an ocean side balcony with lounge chairs. Steph and I wasted no time settling in, and with the double closets there was more than enough space for all of our stuff!
The Ship: The Harmony of the Seas is the WORLDS newest and biggest cruise ship. When we were docked in the Bahamas, it was next to 3 other ships, and we kept joking about how the Harmony looked like it could eat the other ships for lunch ha! But all kidding aside, I couldn’t believe how massive this ship was. It has 3 large pools (one of them being adults only, which was so nice!), dozens of restaurants, and has a capacity of 8,800 people!! When the Harmony isn’t sailing around, it remains docked at it’s home base in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Activities: There are endless activities aboard the Harmony of the Seas to keep you entertained from morning til night! During the day be sure to check out the spa, the pool and waterslides, try the rock climbing wall, catch a wave on the FlowRider (a surf simulator), dare the zip line, do a little shopping (you guys, there was even a Kate Spade store on the ship!), and walk down the boardwalk for classic boardwalk games and food! At night, you can see a comedy show, check out the Bionic Bar (a robot makes your drinks!), try your hand at the casino, see a performance at the AquaTheater, or dance the night away at the club, fully equipped with an awesome DJ! They also offer tons of activities for when you arrive at your destination. Steph and I went snorkeling in the Bahamas, and everything was completely organized for us. All we had to do was show up and enjoy!
The Food: Oh man, where do I event start?! When I used to think about cruise food, I would imagine some cheesey buffet, similar to what you might find at an all inclusive Cancun resort (you ALL know what I’m talking about). It’s safe to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and variety of the meals I ate. Not only are there some amazing restaurants on board, such as Johnny Rockets, Wonderland, or 150 Central Park, but the main dining rooms have an AWESOME menu! Steph and I ate in the dining room both nights, as we were so impressed with the menu and the service. We even had a totally different menu offering the second night! Talk about options. They have everything from steak to lobster to pastas, and of course a variety of salads, appetizers, and deserts. We were in heaven!
What I Packed: I had a hard time packing for this trip because I JUST switched out my closet from summer to fall, so all of my warm weather clothes were in storage! Luckily, Rent the Runway has tons of cute pieces for a tropical vacay. I wore this top to breakfast one morning with white jeans, and this dress made for a great pool coverup. I also finally took the plunge and bought this gorgeous bamboo bag, which I had been eyeing all summer. I got so many compliments from complete strangers whenever I wore it!
I had an absolute blast with Royal Caribbean aboard the Harmony of the Seas, and this trip has me itching to take a longer cruise! I would love to do an Alaskan cruise next. Have any of you guys been on a cruise before? Where did you go? I’d love to hear about it!
